Go Greece Lightning

Updated: May 8, 2019

Welcome to our new blog! The AU Chamber Singers has been working tirelessly for months to bring this program together. We are excited to share our experiences with you! Over the next few weeks we will be posting blogs, senior spotlights, and profiles of our partners in the "Collaboration Corner."

I will be your "tour guide." As one of two choral fellows, it has been my job to handle all of the backstage shenanigans. Pardon my "Grease" pun above, but as you will come to find, bad jokes are my forte. Lets take a look at what have accomplished so far this semester, and what we have left before we leave!

Chamber Singers is the premier ensemble at American University. This semester we gave two powerhouse performances partnered with the AU Chorus as well as the AU Symphony Orchestra. Our first concert was a North American Premiere of Arnold Saltzman's Halevi Symphony. It was an incredible opportunity for us to work with a living composer and engage new compositions! Our next undertaking was a classic of choral repertoire, Mozart's Requiem. We again collaborated with the AU Chorus and the AUSO to bring this work to life. Also on that program was Haydn's Te Deum for Empress Maria Therese. It was a shor jubilant piece that kicked off the concert with finesse. Between these concerts, Chamber Singers was compiling two extensive tour programs. One will be performed with orchestra, and the other a capella.

Behind the scenes were just as fun as stage time. The choral managers worked to compile travel documentation, digital music lists, distribute information regularly to students, as well as participate in the music making process. Some of the most fun moments have been interacting with students and building relationships that will last a lifetime.

Looking forward, there is still so much to do. We are having a free concert to promote the tour and give a glimpse to our patrons and community members of what we will be doing.

We can't wait to tell you all about our wonderful tour in Greece! We look forward to being ambassadors for American University, and representing our country, family and friends with pride and distinction!
